Generator works great. It easily handles the load of my well pump and other small motor and resistive loads in my house. Be careful on the delivery. The trucking company didn't want to provide curbside delivery, and I would have to get it off of the truck myself. I happen to have a copy of my order that said curbside delivery, and the trucking co. honored it. When preparing the generator, I added the proper amount of oil but the display continued to say "low oil". I then tried to start the generator but it wouldn't start. I called the DEK help line and found out that it is common for the low oil safety switch to initially "stick" in the closed position and disable the generator. I was then instructed to disconnect the low oil switch safety feature and run the generator until warm oil allowed the switch to dislodge. I then reconnected the low oil safety switch, and the generator works as designed.
Bought this generator as an open box item. Was lucky it had only 33 minutes of run time on it, so for a return it was a great deal. Took it home and tried 10 times to start it up. After noticing no gas was going through the very visible fuel filter, I removed, blew it out and it started right up. Ran well for a half hour with no load, I decided to hook it up to the house using a 30 amp power inlet box to my panel. Tested it and put it away.
The next day, yes the very next day, we lost Con Ed power. Turned the main power off, turned on Generator breaker, added a couple gallons of gas, pulled it once and started up. Used the 25 ft 30 Amp Rigid cord I bought with the generator ($70) to connect generator to power inlet. Was up and running on generator power for 2 hours until Con Ed came back on-line.
Devices that I had running were 2 fridges, well, oil burner, various lights and outlets. Not a hiccup.
Can't comment on the long haul, but it had a great debut.
I've owned this generator for 5 years. I purchased it in the Springfield, MO area ice storm of 2008 as we didn't have power for 12 days. This unit has served me well in this time. It ran 8 of the 12 days straight powering my furnace, fridge, a few lights and TV. Our well house is ~115' from the main house so running a 900w heater to keep pipes thawed and the well pump (at ~360' deep) put quite a load on this unit, but it humped right through so we could shower and do dishes daily. Fuel consumption seemed fair, but I never bothered measuring it. Since the restoration of power post ice storm I've used the generator for odd jobs around our farm as well as on floats in several parades to supply power on the move. This year I finally broke the pull cord and recoil spring, but with a little work I have replaced the cord and repaired the spring. Each of the hooks that allow the spring to coil / recoil broke off, but some heat and some pliers it's good as used... I highly recommend the DEK brand and this unit in particular.
Looks good...starts...haven't put it to a test...Looking to the next disaster...it will happen!
I have run this generator for a total of about 50 hours. The longest run time was 48 hours straight during hurricane sandy. Powered everything (2 refrigerators, 1 freezer, 2 TV's, Microwave and lights. Also powered my 2HP sewer grinder pump as long as everything else was shut down. It worked and I am satisfied. It is noisey and usually starts after 2-3 pulls.
Nice generator. Recently had that capacitor go and GXi replaced it under warranty. Thanks!
Easy to setup and operate
I put this together, wheels and rubber legs, added oil and gas. This DEk started right up..I let it run for awhile and added a few loads to it and it performed great. The 11 hp motor was not louded than any other outdoor tool motor.
I have bought several generators in the last 20 years, and this is the first one that actually does what the box says it can do. Surge and continuous wattage was spot on. Worked out of the box with gas and oil. run time was legit. Called to get a copy of the manual and the manufacturer sent one over. Love it when a plan comes together!
i purchased this as a open box item. Did not look used, but got a pretty descent price on it. Anyways, i should have tested before i left it storage in the shed for 8 months. We had a family reunion and needed power at the lake for the electrical stuff we were running, Fortunately, when i decided to assemble and use it, this bad boy cranked right up. Of course, i had to add fuel and prime it a few times. Anyways, i would highland recommend it, works great as a backup generator when you need power.
My DEK generator didn't give us any problems. Started on the first pull and ran all the equipment at our site that we expected it to. Delivered promptly as well.
