This has worked really well for my homeowner needs. I don't know what makes it a 'Commercial' chipper, but it's definitely too small for any business use. Since most people using this won't be chipping 4 inch stems or boles, this maximum is more relevant to the presence of strong side branches or forks which must either be cut off or bent together to fit in the 4 inch opening. It's not just getting it into the opening but also being pulled down to the blade which a strong side-branch can hinder. I've used this now to chip cherry, oak and buckthorn saplings (and tops) along with honeysuckle shrubs. It does self feed nicely but the smaller sizes will need some coaxing to keep them going. It definitely helps to have the hitch to pull with some type of vehicle. This is my first chipper so I wasn't familiar with changing the blade. The operators manual says use the instructions in the operators manual, but there aren't any. I finally figured it out by watching videos of similar chippers and by common sense. I have the older CH1 model that is being discontinued in favor of a newer, more expensive one. Mine was around $1200 and the newer one is around $1600. I talked to the sales rep before I bought it and they said the main difference is some upgraded internal parts. I think this upgrade was more of an excuse to increase the price as I doubt the cost of the upgrade was $400. Haven't tried it with leaves yet. The hopper will reduce smaller twigs and branches but I can understand why they say not to use it for woody material as it really yanks them down fast (once it grips) and from a safety stand point, could become an issue if something got caught in the material.
This is the third Chipper Shredder that I have owned and used. It is by far the best. My 1-Acre lot has a lot of beautiful trees and I've kept about 1/2 of it natural. I use it to chop up the leaves and branches that fall. The choppings make good fertilizer for the trees. The unit is easy to move around and, by letting the input shoot lay on the ground, it is easy to feed. The only complaint I have is that it blows to chopped material to far but I use an old blanket tied to the discharge spout to limit the distance.
I purchased this chipper/shredder for multiple reasons. Rather than purchase mulch for our yard, we decided to use the limbs and leaves to mulch our flowers and plants. We use this equipment at our second home in Maine, but are permanent residents of Florida. I purchased it last October and when I returned to Maine in mid November for our final 2013 visit, I mulched leaves and limbs during a 3 day period of time. The equipment was easy to put together, was easy to maneuver around the property, and performed well. I found that smaller limbs did not work as well in the self feeder as the larger limbs, but overall worked well. I will be returning in April, and expect to find many leaves and limbs, from this harsh winter, to utilize this equipment.
Assembly took longer than expected.
Some plastic parts did not fit as well as required. The chipped material leaks from around the chipping chamber.
The engine starting sequence took a while to understand.
It sure would help if a fitting or hose was added to direct used oil to a container.
When using trailer hitch with lawn mower, it does NOT damage lawn. Really heavy put a cart under it to mover into garage. Minimal instructions. Instructions mention to tighten chipper belt loosen engine bolts and slide engine back. Have not done that yet. Chews up anything I can fit in feeder tube. Not real loud.
Liked this brand because of the elec start and it works great. Did leaves and up to 4" branches on the first day. I'm a 60 yr old woman and not fond of pull starts.

Assembles quickly and very easily in minutes. Makes really quick work of shredding tree limbs and making mulch; LOVE IT!
Ive had this unit for 4 months now. Easy to move around, starts super easy. Belt replacement and blade replacement is simple. I don't know why some people gave less than stellar reviews, I've cut down and mulched over 200 trees with this. It will easily handle a 3.5-4" trunk, whoever said it doesn't probably put the blade in wrong. Pine, Cypress, Oak, Palm. No problem.
As for the engine being Chinese, so what. They all break eventually, I see nothing here difficult to repair. Heck, you can replace the whole engine cheap enough if you want to.
I was pleasantly surprise with the quality of this machine. In very little time, I had the chipper assembled and ready to go. After filling it with gas and oil in my garage, I plugged the electric cord in and pushed the red button a few times and it started right up. I let it run a few minutes, then I cut it off and tried the pull cord . . . it kicked right over. I towed it out to the back lot with my lawn tractor, started it with the pull cord and started chippering three inch limbs and shredding leaves immediately. What a great buy this was for me. The second day out was as easy as the first!
Delivery was prompt. Easy to assemble. Works great. Branches have to be fairly straight to go in the branch feeder. I put twigs in the leaf hopper and it worked fine even though the instructions say leaves only.
