I have bamboo weeds, it mulched them to my satisfaction, started easy, love the capability to shut the fuel off from the motor giving the opportunity to drain the carburetor Costumer service is outsourced on this unit and if I rate it at a zero, Shredder gets a 10. .
Assembly of this chipper was easy, did not take too much time. I like the compact size and the chute to put a garbage can next to it which makes clean up easy. Next time, I would buy a larger one since this unit can handle branches that are 2 inch thick or less.
What a great Chipper - Shredder, better pricing and better function.
The Clutch assembly fell off. It is welded on the outside, so it will be easy to repair. After 20 hrs of running.
It is costly, but the warranty helps with the cost. Problem we live in Bellingham, WA
and the nearest repair shop is 150 miles a way. Tacoma, WA
Will need a Gear Puller to repair this Gear Assembly. We talked to the Brush Master
Company and we have not heard back how long it will take to get another one
shipped to us.
We can always take this Clutch Assembly and have it rewelded. Maybe a better
weld this time.
I replaced a 5 hp old chipper with this one mainly because it had an electric start and a clutch. It took a little bit of time to assemble, but pretty straightforward. Fired up quickly. I overworked it initially, but once I got into a good rythmn, it worked well. I found that the electric start is less necessary than I had thought. I'll use it first start of the day and the recoil works the rest of the time. I've got a 20 acre wooded, hilly parcel that has a lot of hazel brush and raspberry bushes. I'd recommend this machine.
when chipping locust limbs 2 inch or bigger has trouble; have to keep turning limb to keep it chipping or it just vibrates the heck out of you! wish the electric start was 12 volt battery. The chute fills to quickly!
The chipper-shredder works as advertised. It has plenty of power and pulverizes the wood. The only quality problem I've found is the protective rubber pieces at the mouth of the chute that deflects wood chips back inside the chute easily breaks off when a 3" log is inserted
Love this wood chipper the only problem is it is very difficult to start, have to make sure the gas is to the brim and the oil is to the max. Have already burned out the electric starter...huge disappointment. Once the unit is is warmed up its very easy to restart. Have to trim branches down for the shoot and it can't handle branches that have a v-knot. Didn't realize an electric starter meant it had to be plugged into an outlet. Haven't found any information on replacing the starter as this unit was purchased for my 80 year old mother who thinks she is 20.
Plenty of horsepower. Started on the 2nd pull. Chipper blades seem to dull pretty quickly, however.
Very easy to use and the features are excellent. Only issue that I had was the rivets on the input guard/gauge plate all sheared off within the first hour of use.
This is the first Chipper/Shedder that I have owned so I do not have any other experiences to compare it to. Living on 10 acres in a high risk fire zone, near national forest in CO, so I need to keep the trees trimmed and definitely do not want to burn any of the small limbs that accumulate. Purchasing a good Chipper Shredder was my best option.
Purchased this model while on a sale promotion, otherwise I might have purchased a smaller HP model if only available at retail price, but am very satisfied with this purchase.
You will need a lot of muscle on the rope pull to start the engine. Not like starting the lawn mower.
It was a little hard to assemble because some of the bolt holes didn't line up properly. And, the fit of the leaf shroud could be better (wood chips fly up thru gaps in the side of it when chipping large branches). Also, it is a bit cumbersome (because of the warning cover) to put leaves and small twigs down the leaf chute. But, it started easily and gobbles stuff up fairly well.
Low port requires constant bending over to feed branches. Length of safety tube requires thicker branches to be very straight. Easily cuts 3" hardwood and pulverizes leaves.
