"“WOW” what more can I say. I received the CH4 Brush Master chipper on Dec.14, 2018. Since then I have about 8 run hours on the machine. I have NOT encountered any of the problems noted in other reviews. I enjoy starting the 15 hp engine with one or maybe two pulls, depending if I remember to turn the run switch to ON. I have been using a 5 hp chipper prior to this unit, there is NO comparison between the two. It will chip everything I have throw at it including pecan, youpon, mesquite, locust. The only problem I have is getting my trees to grow straighter limbs. It would be nice if you could idle the engine down while gathering more stuff, but I'll just shut it down so it/I get a rest.
I would recommend this unit to anyone with stuff to shred/chip. I understand there is an electric start CH4 unit coming out early Spring 2017. I didn't want to wait for that.
As far as durability goes I'll reserve that till later about six months.
After researching many different machines I came across this one and couldn't believe the price. With a clutch, 16 flailers, 3x4 inch opening, and a 15hp engine there is simply nothing else on the market that comes close. I put it to use with everything I had and it took it all, newly cut branches and old branches that had been sitting for various periods of time. Used the hopper for leaves and twigs, took it all. Quality of the chips was fairly uniform and perfect for mulching.
The only complaint I have is that the rubber tabs that gaurd the opening of the intake tube break off such that by the end of day two I only have one left. This means I have to be a little more careful that something doesn't get spit back at me, but other that it works very well.
One word sayes it all. On the side of the engine cover there is a sticker "BEAST" and it is not a joke. I unpacked this machine Friday and have put 15+ hours on it already. If you can get it into the feed tube it is gone! I put green and dry Oak, Hickory, Holley, Cedar, Pine and everything else that was laying around into this machine and it never missed a beat...never bogged, never clogged...nothing but nice clean mulch out the other side. If you have property with trees and you like mulch this is a must buy piece of machinery!
Eats everything I put in it. Small branches and leaves can easily go into large opening and 3 and 4 inch branches do go easily into side cutter. No problem with power or starting with the 15 Hp motor either. I love it. Ran it for about 2 hours first time out and second time for an hour. I did a real good visual inspection and tightening of all hardware before assembly of other parts and I did not find anything really loose as others have commented. Seems like they have improved on their QA and some of the hardware.
Great chipper, shreds and chips great... a beast of a machine
Easy assembly. Starts without undue effort. I use it to chip maple, fir and hemlock branches primarily which it handles easily. I’m happy with my decision to purchase the Brush Master.
I'm sure glad, I didn't opt for a lower horse power model. This machine seems to be able to handle the job well. I'm concerned about how long the blade will stand up, seeing there is only one blade installed. Time will tell. Setup was real easy.
The input tube for larger branches is at the correct angle and height to allow for easy work. The larger shute on top for small stuff and leaves is large enough to keep from bottlenecking. The machine does not wear you out.
I shop around at every site i could find, and this is the largest engine and biggest cutting radius of all the portable chippers i found. People that gave poor reviews need to realize there are limitations. Use common sense asto what you put in it. This is the best chipper/shredder you are going to find without spending 5-10 times the $. The choke is labeled backward, but it didn't take long to figure that out.
Did everything I had expected with no issues.
I waited until I had an oppurtunity to operate the machine. Indeed, last weekend, I met with three of my friends who also have chippers of various brands and we compared our machines on the basis of ease of starting and use, ability to handle large branches and necessity of clearing the shipping mechanism. The CH4 was a hands-down winner in every category. My friends were very impressed.
Great machine! Plows through all limbs smaller than firewood.
