GREAT VALUE Review by PB203
Rating:
I started shopping for a generator following the Halloween snow storm of 2011 in CT. I had a transfer switch installed on my electrical box and I wanted a generator capable to power my well pump, furnace, air handler, two refrigerators, some lights and a few outlets. I was surprised that most portable generators can't run in the rain or other types of bad weather. That seemed to me like a very important feature.
Then I found this Stanley 8000W all-weather portable generator. It was more expensive than some, less than others in that power range, but I really liked the all-weather feature and its large fuel tank. I ordered it from The Home Depot in January 2012. I used it for the first time during the power outage resulting from hurricane Sandy in October 2012. We were out of power for four days straight. The generator logged 63 hours of flawless operations, using on average a half gallon of gas per hour.
As mentioned by others, installing the battery is a pain but it is a one-time thing. Changing the oil requires a long neck funnel for adding oil and I found that the easiest way to remove oil is by placing a pan under the machine and tilting it.
Overall this is a very good machine.

GREAT GENERATOR Review by Buckaroo
Rating:
I just received this generator, it arrived in good condition and is pretty easy to put together. You will need a funnel to put the oil in, and it doesn’t come with oil like some of the others. It takes about 1 ½ quarts of 10w 30 oil. The battery was easy to hook up.
Outstanding performance. Starts quickly and easily with both electric start and pull rope. I have run the unit 3 hours to start the break in and this unit runs my whole house and doesn’t even breathe hard!!! Yes whole house air, refrigerator, 2 computers, TV and some lights.
Over all, this is a great generator, and a great value considering if you buy a cheaper model with same numbers, 10,000 and 8,000 you will have to build a small house to make it useful because you cannot run the others in the rain and what good is an emergency generator if you can’t run it in the rain. Also I have had some of the cheaper models with same engine size and power rating that would not run the whole house with the A/C.

WELL DESIGNED Review by Sparks
Rating:
The unit arrived promptly and in excellent condition. It only took about 30 minutes to unpack and complete assembly.
It runs smoothly and relatively quiet. I haven't had an opportunity to run it under full load yet but had no trouble with a couple thousand watts. The voltage and frequency appeared to be within spec. The paint is substantial and well applied. The owner’s manual is reasonably comprehensive.
The generator appears to be well designed. The removable cable and panel is a great idea especially for winter weather in the northeast. It is relatively small but quite heavy. The slide-out handles make transporting easy. I haven't been able to put it to a real test yet, however all things considered it easily meets my expectations.

THE GENERATOR PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY Review by Phonzo
Rating:
July 2012 was the second time I had to use the generator for an extended period and I'm pleased with its performance. The generator runs the entire house with all appliances plugged and ready to go. The circuit breaker on the generator only popped once when my wife ran the hair dryer and iron at the same time. It ran continuously without shutdown for 72 hours in temps in the upper 90's to100's. Fuel consumption was as advertised and it ran pretty close to 12hrs on a single tank. Overall it’s a great buy. (Posted on 7/17/13)
260 HOURS OF ALMOST CONTINUOUS USE AND NO ISSUES Review by Rcks
Rating:
I bought this generator last year after Hurricane Irene and had a transfer switch installed to power a well pump, furnace, fridge, microwave and a few other appliances including some lights. We just got power back today 12 days after Hurricane Sandy blew in. The generator has been in near continuous use for this time save for oil changes every 20 hours and refueling. No issues to report and it handled all our power needs extremely well. Very satisfied with this product and would recommend to anyone shopping for a good size weatherproof generator. Customer Service Review by Arizona

Generator quit running after only 6 1/2 hours of run time. We live in a remote area and depend on this generator to draw our well water. We drove to nearest recommended repair shop (other ranchers told us about this shop) which was over an hour's drive. I called Customer Service and got the run around. Paid for repairs out of pocket even though it was under warranty. We had to have it resolved quickly and a very disappointed with Customer Service and won't be buying any other Stanley products in the future. (Posted on 7/13/13)

Poor Customer Service Review by Arizona
Rating:
If you are living off grid and purchase this generator do no expect much in customer care! After 6 1/2 hours of run time it quit running. To be covered under warranty they wanted us to pick up generator and take it to their approved shop. Not an option when you live in remote area. We depend on this generator to draw water from community well so we paid to have it fixed. Warranty is a joke and will never buy another Stanley product! (Posted on 7/13/13)
Poor Customer Service Review by Long Rider
Rating:
With only 61/2 hours of run time it would not start. Being in a remote area and dependent upon this generator we took it to the True Value shop which was over an hour's drive and had it repaired. It was an electrical issue. Customer Service/Product Warranty is lacking. They wanted us to pick up generator and take it to one of their approved shops! We purchased this online from Lowe's and was told they do not accept credit card online purchases as proof of purchase! We will never buy another Stanley product. (Posted on 7/13/13)
